It would be good to produce our own veggies in the backyard of the house to save money on groceries. The first step is to learn how to produce onions without spending money on soil material by repurposing discarded beverage bottles.
Onions provide health advantages in addition to being a spice, such as nourishing the hair and skin, lowering the risk of several forms of cancer, and increasing mood. Onions are high in antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals, and they have low-calorie content.
Planting onions is simple since it just involves planting seedlings and does not require any seeds or breeding. Leeks have a brief harvest season; from the time seedlings are planted until they are harvested, it takes around 1.5 months, or the number of clumps grows large and part of the leaves turns yellow.
Here's how to grow onions in an old bottle.
Equipment
- Some shallots
- 5-liter plastic bottle
- Scissors
- Knife
- Using a knife, cut a rectangle out of the center of the bottle.
- Using scissors, cut a hole around the bottle. A 2: 1 mixture of soil and compost can be used as a planting medium.
- Fill a bottle with dirt until it is completely full.
- Choose a big onion that has been kept in the refrigerator for about 15 days, until the roots have emerged and the leeks have begun to develop, and then plant in a plastic bottle on moist soil with a soil thickness of at least 5 cm. One onion clove is planted in each bottle.
- Do watering on plants regularly to maintain moisture/soil moisture content
- Make sure the onion plant gets sunlight
- Plastic bottles can be hung on the wall of homes exposed to direct sunlight
